Less is always more in appealing to buyers, and decluttering will help create the impression of abundant space and storage.

Consider making improvements and/or updates that may increase the value and/or attract more buyers. Upgrading these areas will often increase the home’s value: flooring, appliances, front yard landscaping, interior painting.

Deep clean all areas, including walls, vents and windows, as well as garages, closets and other typically out-of-sight places. Hiring a professional cleaning service is often recommended.

Stage your home with fresh flowers and other touches that create an inviting, welcoming scene for buyers.

Create a realistic timeline based on your agent’s knowledge of the current market conditions. Be sure to include any prep time for things like cleaning, repairing and improving that will need to occur before your house is listed.

  11. Accept the best offer.
  12. Close on the sale and celebrate.
